What to get that special hostess this Christmas

Standard

I know a lot of people forget to bring hostess gifts these days, but I found a bunch of cute items that you will love to give if you can part with them 😉

I have to share how much love I have for Etsy shop Sunny Patch Soapworks I found them through the Handmade Movement team that I participate in on Etsy  and am now hooked on Kelly’s wax tarts and melts. Having a dog in the house makes me want to freshen things up and you can’t go wrong with these fresh, not overpowering scents. P.S. Anjou Pear, I love you!

Next up is a wonderful gift that is fun and practical too. Who wouldn’t love beautiful towels like the ones Michelle of Etsy shop The Vintage Home Studio creates. She takes bar mop towels and turns them from ho-hum to wow! My bathroom even looks more festive 🙂

Most of us love coffee and maybe your hostess of the mostest does too; why settle for a boring coffee cup when you can make it fun, pretty and yours? Have Etsy shop LaBelleMadeleine make a monogramed mug cozy for your hostess. You could gift it on a sweet mug filled with coffee beans or even cocoa mix for a fun, easy gift.

Of course you could also add a sweet vintage teaspoon hand stamped with a cute, coffee-esque saying too. You can find that and more in my shop on Etsy.

I could go on for days but I wanted to show you some fun, cute ideas for a handmade hostess gift. Have fun checking out the Handmade Goodness.

A Month’s Worth of Items: What I Learned

Standard

Here are all of the challenge pieces I made for the month of July, minus a couple that sold.

So I was pretty pleased that I was able to make one or more items each day in July. This didn’t include orders made for customers; it was simply to provide a creative boost and to ramp up my shop for the busy selling season that will be here before too long.

I learned a few things about myself and about being creative in general by doing this.

It is not that hard to be creative when there is a deadline; others may disagree, but with a public promise made, I really did make something. It didn’t have to be mind blowing, or totally new, just make something, darnit!

I made 4 resin pendants on July 30th. I have missed playing around in this medium

I didn’t set any limits on myself, such as the piece had to be finished and ready to list, I just wanted to create a component, a whole item, it didn’t matter. It also didn’t matter if I had made one of those before; see lesson one, just make something darnit!

This bracelet was made with the feeling I had at that time; elation and a bit of pride that I made it through the challenge! It was the last day and I had no time to work at all, but did it anyway 🙂

I also learned that I work well under pressure, in this case, anyway. The just make something, darnit, really applied here. There was no question that I would do this, just what will I make. Many times I had laid all the components out for a project in my mind and ended up scrapping it. It was too late in the evening to hammer a few times, I couldn’t come up with the final project with my existing items, etc. There weren’t any mistakes in this; its just part of the creative process. Here is a bracelet made due to hammering curfew restrictions. I wanted to use one of these wood bangle blanks for some time. I am not sure what I bought them for either!

I hope to get the items I made finished into a real piece or listed soon. Most are in a shoebox waiting to be finished/photographed. It was a fun thing to do and I will try to challenge myself again soon. I just purchased items to try torch enameling and know that will be a lot of fun- woo hoo!

A challenging challenge

Standard

I am still making items each day with my self-imposed creativity challenge; the last week has been super-difficult though. I have had an upswing in the amount of orders, which is wonderful, of course, and my hubby and I have been taking care of 4 kiddos ages 10 and under. Needless to say, I am excessively busy, but told myself I had no excuse 😉

20130727-003148.jpg

I had fun making ear cuffs on two consecutive nights- copper on the 23rd and sterling silver on the 24th.

20130727-003355.jpg

I etched these plates/pendants on the 25th- I am figuring the heart piece can be made into a bracelet; who knows what I will do with the owl?

20130727-003544.jpg

This leather necklace was fun- I made it on the 22nd.

20130727-003656.jpg

I finished these rings moments ago; I started work very late as usual and didn’t want to break my hammering curfew 🙂

Just a few more days of July are left; I am glad I pushed myself a bit and had fun digging through my hoard of supplies too!
